Adilabad Airport: A New Horizon for Telangana’s Connectivity

The long-awaited Adilabad airport project is finally taking flight! In a strategic move, the Ministry of Defence has partnered with the Ministry of Civil Aviation to transform the existing Nizam-era airfield into a state-of-the-art dual-use facility.Under this landmark agreement, the Defence Ministry will spearhead the construction of core infrastructure and establish a dedicated training facility.Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will manage a civilian enclave for passenger and commercial flights. This joint-use model ensures efficient infrastructure sharing while bolstering both national security and regional development.Spanning over 800 acres—combining existing defence land with additional parcels provided by the Telangana government—the airport is being designed to accommodate aircraft like the Airbus A320.A joint technical survey is scheduled for April 17 to finalize the master plan. This development is set to bridge the 300km connectivity gap to Hyderabad, unlocking the tourism potential of Adilabad’s tribal regions and fostering a new commercial hub. With the foundation stone expected soon, northern Telangana is poised for a major economic lift-off.
